Branch Chief – Special Projects (BC-POT)

In addition to General Duties, the Branch Chief, Special Projects under the general direction and supervision of the Division Chief, Communications and Education, shall have the following responsibilities:

  • Assist with the development and revision of qualification study guides and supporting materials.
  • Assist in promoting Marine Safety and Marine Environmental Protection with the Districts and other directorates.
  • Assist with identification of resources that enhance effectiveness of Marine Safety and Environmental Protection education initiatives.
  • Assist with developing and delivering briefing materials about new and/or revised qualification standards to Districts.
  • Assist in evaluating and updating publications as needed.
  • Attend scheduled meetings as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications Required:

  • Broad understanding of Marine Safety and Marine Environmental Protection as evidenced by holding one or more Prevention PQSs.
  • Hold the Marine Safety Training Ribbon or demonstrate evidence of pursuing such.
  • Held flotilla, division, district, or other national Marine Safety Staff Officer positions for a combined two or more years.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and PowerPoint.
  • Work well within a team environment that is most often characterized by a minimum of supervision.
  • Effective writing skills demonstrating proper use of English grammar.
