Branch Assistant-Vessel Activities Northeast District, (BA-PVEB)
In addition to the General Duties, the BRANCH ASSISTANT, VESSEL ACTIVITIES, under the immediate supervision of the Branch Chief (BC-PV), shall be assigned the following specific duties to be performed in accordance with approved policies and procedures of the Department:
- Exercise staff responsibility and supervision over all matters within the Branch Assistant role in the Vessel Activities Division, and keep the Branch Chief informed of all developments within your area.
- Maintain close liaison with other Branch Assistants in the Division, as well as counterparts in the “P” Department, Directorate, and Sectors in order to ensure proper development and implementation of support programs.
- Provide Vessel Safety technical expertise, and vessel examination support to the DSOs-MS and Auxiliary Sector Coordinators (ASC) establishing lines of communication and reporting protocols to identify program actions, accomplishments, and critical needs within assigned areas of responsibilities for:
- Commercial Fishing Vessel Examinations
- Uninspected Passenger Vessel Examinations
- Uninspected Tow Vessel Examinations
- Port State and Domestic Vessels
- Assist with the promotion of the Vessel Activities Division to the Auxiliary District leadership by:
- Increasing member awareness.
- b. Developing new projects that will benefit and enhance any of our programs.
- Keep the Division informed of any changes, additions or deletions to any CFRs, NVICs or USC, or any training programs and/or vessel examination procedures that affect any Vessel Activities Division programs.
- Provide expertise and administrative support in the implementation of programs that will prepare members to assume related assignments made by the Coast Guard.
- Categorize and report local success stories in the lessons learned format to provide up-to-date real world experiences for publication and education of our membership and the related vessel industries.
- Provide reports of activities in their area to the BC-PV, on a monthly basis no later than the 10th of the month.
- Upon expiration of your term of office, or when directed by the Department Chief, transfer all property and records of your office to your successor.
- Additional responsibilities to include:
- Provide data for all program awards within your area
- Establish a working relationship with CG Vessel Program coordinators
- Provide requested information for orders and/or travel arrangements in a timely manner.
- Provide tracking data for Examiners in all programs as necessary.
- Provide information as it regards Auxiliary Uninspected Vessel Policies and Guidelines in your area.
- Provide data for yearly examiners maintenance certifications.
- Ensure successful completion of Auxiliary Marine Professional (TRIDENT) certifications for position held.
- Assist in updating the Division’s contribution to the “P” manual as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills required for this unique position include:
- Specific demonstrated and verifiable qualifications, experience, education and training to qualify you to perform the tasks identified in the job description.
- Be qualified as a CFVE, UPVE, UTVE or other domestic vessel examiner.
- For this position a member need not reside in the Oceania District.
