Branch Assistant-Editorial Policy, (BA-BREW)
The Recreational Boating Safety Outreach Directorate is seeking candidates for multiple open positions to strengthen our online journal, RBS Job One, and to assist with other writing and communications projects. Branch Assistants for Editorial Writing and Design will work under the general supervision and Direction of the Branch Chief, Editorial Services, and, in addition to General Duties, shall be responsible for:
- Recruiting contributors for B Directorate publications.
- Assisting contributors with formatting and article editing to meet USCG and USCGAUX publication expectations.
- Assisting with journal formatting and layout.
- Editing and proofreading publications before publication.
- Assisting with B Directorate’s Communications Division special projects as needed.
Skills and Qualifications Required:
- Desire and willingness to work in, and be part of, a mutually supportive environment focused on recreational boating safety.
- Desire to create communications tools that positively influence recreational boating safety.
- Strong writing and editorial skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate with authors and other editors to produce strong publications in support of recreational boating safety missions.
- Familiarity with writing and editorial tools such as Word, Google Docs, Adobe Acrobat, and Canva. A commitment to ongoing development of this knowledge is essential.
- Knowledge of the AP Stylebook and the United States Coast Guard Stylebook is helpful; willingness to develop this knowledge is essential.
