Branch Assistant-Cloud Admin & Governance, (BA-COTM)
This position will advance the Auxiliary’s cloud and infrastructure posture through hands-on research and development, architecture, and project execution. The BA-COTM drives prototypes and reference designs in AWS; explores containerization and hypervisor options; shapes future Linux migration strategies; and turns findings into actionable plans, templates, and runbooks. The role develops governance practices (tagging, access control, cost stewardship), manages IAM role patterns, tunes EC2 sizing and CloudWatch monitoring, and produces AWS reporting to inform decisions. In partnership with the Branch Chief, database, and software engineering teams, this position helps deliver system migrations and modifications that move the Auxiliary forward: securely, efficiently, and cost-effectively. You will drive R&D and architecture in AWS, containerization, hypervisors, and future Linux migration strategies, turning prototypes into reference designs and runbooks. Establish cloud governance and efficiency by defining tagging and guardrails, designing IAM role patterns, right-sizing EC2, building CloudWatch monitoring, and delivering cost and performance reporting with optimization recommendations. Partner with the Branch Chief and database/software teams to plan and execute system migrations and modifications and keep documentation clear and current.
The ideal candidate shall have an educational background and professional work experience in the public or private sector in activities related to the Division’s core functions including:
- Auxiliarist in good standing; completes/maintains mandated training.
- Strong working knowledge of AWS or cloud services, including IAM, EC2 sizing, CloudWatch monitoring, and billing/cost optimization fundamentals; ability to produce actionable AWS reporting.
- Practical familiarity with Linux administration and at least one container or hypervisor technology.
- Solid understanding of DNS and networking basics; able to collaborate on Cloudflare/Route 53 changes led by BC-COT.
- Clear written communication; able to turn experiments into concise architecture notes and runbooks.
- Collaborative mindset; comfortable partnering with DBAs and software engineers on shared deliverables.
The following skills are NOT required but a plus:
- Hands-on with Cloudflare/Route 53, VPC design, and security services (CloudTrail/GuardDuty).
- Scripting (Bash/Python) for automation and reporting.
- Cloud certifications (AWS Cloud Practitioner/Associate) or Red Hat (RHCSA/RHCE); not required.
The candidate should be able to demonstrate experience and ability in setting goals, creating schedules, authoring excellent written products, and briefing results. They should be able to work both independently and in a volunteer team environment. This is a junior-level role with opportunities to grow.
